H018686 RECRUITING FELDWEBEL'S SHOULDER STRAP. (Schulterklappen)
BACKGROUND: With the reintroduction of conscription in 1935, the Oberkommando der Wehrmacht, (High Command of the Armed Forces), activated the Wehrersatzdienststelle, (Recruiting Offices), throughout Germany to process and administer the call up procedure. Personnel serving with the Wehrersatzdienststelle wore a distinctive designation on their shoulder straps/boards as identifying insignia.
PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Later, second pattern, (circa May 1940), field-grey wool construction sew on shoulder strap with bright silver/aluminum diamond pattern NCO’s tress to all the outside edges, a single stamped alloy rank pip, the stamped natural aluminum, September 10TH 1935 Wehrmacht pattern, "W" cypher and "VII" and white wool waffenfarbe piping. Glue spots to the reverse indicating it was most probably in a scrap book at some point.
