H010563 EMíS PHOTOGRAPH POSTCARD. (Photographie Postkarte)

BACKGROUND: Basic human instinct dictates that soldiers in the field, regardless of nationality, long for their loved ones at home. As a result it was very common for these soldiers to purchase, or appropriate, "sweetheart" items and send them home. Although there was almost an unlimited selection of "sweetheart" items one of the most popular items were the photograph postcards which were relatively inexpensive, easily mailed and distinctly personal.

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Roughly, 5 3/8" x 3 3/8", mid-weight card stock postcard with a close-up black and white photograph of a young Enlisted Man in a M35 Dress Tunic and visor cap. Visible uniform details include the cap insignia, shoulder straps and collar tabs and a breast eagle. The reverse of the postcard has mostly illegible, handwritten script that includes the date, "20. 6. 42". The postcard shows light age yellowing and has small tape remnants to the reverse corners.
