BACKGROUND: On June 17TH 1936, Reichsführer-SS Heinrich Himmler was appointed to the newly created position of Chef der Deutschen Polizei im Reichsministerium des Innern, (Chief of the German Police in the National Ministry of the Interior), effectively giving him full control of all police agencies within Germany. As a result of this appointment and the restructuring of all the separate German state police into a single national police force new regulations were instituted to bring about uniformity in dress for all police through-out the country. One of the new uniform regulations was the introduction of new style belt buckles for Officer’s and EM/NCO’s on June 25TH 1936 that was utilized for the duration of the war.

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Standard issue, EM/NCO’s brown leather construction waist belt is roughly, 45mm (1 3/4") wide and 104cm (41") long, with a leather, buckle retaining tongue and aluminum buckle catch both intact. The buckle catch end of the belt is folded over and stitched to the reverse to secure the catch in place. The reverse of the folded over buckle catch retainer is very nicely maker marked to "de Valk jr", "Amtsterdam" with the image of a flying eagle. The reverse of the belt is also nicely Polizei marked "PO" and dated for 1943. The other end of the belt is slightly rounded off and the reverse of the belt is in natural tan leather and is well marked with the stamped size numeral, "105". The natural tan leather buckle retaining tongue has its original stitching and six pair of parallel, punched, length adjustment buckling eyelets. The belt is in overall excellent condition and the leather is still quite supple. The belt would fit sizes ranging from a roughly, 91cm (36") to 104cm (40") waist. Very nice example, hard to find.
