BACKGROUND: On June 17^TH 1936, Reichsführer-SS Heinrich Himmler was appointed to the newly created position of Chef der Deutschen Polizei im Reichsministerium des Innern, (Chief of the German Police in the National Ministry of the Interior), effectively giving him full control of all police agencies within Germany. As a result of this appointment and the restructuring of all the separate German state police into a single national police force new regulations were instituted on June 25^TH 1936 to bring about uniformity in dress for all police through-out the country. The introductory date and exact regulations for wear of the Deutsche Wehrmacht, (German Armed Forces), cufftitle are unknown but it is surmised that it was utilized in a similar fashion to the army’s Deutsche Wehrmacht armband as introduced by the Army Mobilization Order of March 12^TH 1937. It is assumed the cufftitle indicated that the police recipient was serving with an army unit outside of Greater Germany. PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Roughly, 1 1/8" tall, 14" long, woven chocolate brown wool construction cufftitle with machine embroidered, Gothic script, "Deutsche Wehrmacht", (German Armed Forces), in white cotton threads. The top and bottom edges of the cufftitle have machine stitched seams and the reverse has the typical opened back revealing the embroidery and a fabric backing. The cufftitle is in overall good condition with areas of light to moderate nap wear, light age and usage toning and minor fraying to the unfinished ends. Very hard example to find.
