S015456 POLIZEI NCO'S SPORT SHIRT. (Sporthemd)

BACKGROUND: Physical fitness of its personnel was a prime concern of the German police and each new recruit was issued a specific sport uniform that consisted of a pullover "tank top" style shirt, navy blue or white short pants and athletic shoes. It is believed regulations concerning the Police sports dress were first addressed by Reichsführer-SS Heinrich Himmler on June 25TH 1936 to bring about uniformity in dress for all police through-out the country. Originally the sports shirt was worn with the second pattern, (Circa June 1936-May 1945), police eagle in light green threads until regulations of October 1937 altered the eagle color to dark green. Further regulations of February 1ST 1938 standardized the sports uniform for all police. Officers ranks were distinguished from NCO’s by the addition of a green stripe positioned around the collar of the sports shirt. Of Note: The German Police had no enlisted ranks with the lowest rank being an Unterwachtmeister which was equivalent to the German army rank of Unteroffizier. Regulations of October 30TH 1942 discontinued issue of the sports uniform for NCO’s, to be reinstated at the successful conclusion of the war.

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Stretchy, standard issue, ribbed, woven white rayon/tricot blend construction, tank top style, sports shirt with vertical side seams and a low, circular, boat-cut neck line. The front center of the shirt has a machine woven, second pattern, wreathed, police eagle with out-stretched wings in light green threads with a canted, black, swastika in its talons, on a woven white rayon base. The eagles wingspan is roughly, 7" from wing tip to wing tip. The eagle’s base is machine stitched to the shirt. The shirt features dual-ply, hemmed, neckline, sleeve openings and tail skirt hem. The front, interior tail skirt is well marked with the black inkstamped manufacturer’s name and location that appears to be, "C. Scmesser A.G. Radolfzoll", and the size numerals, "41", and "42". The shirt is in overall good condition with a few small picks and pulls and light to moderate age and usage toning. The shirt is a roughly size 38" chest but the stretchiness of the material would enable it to fit larger sizes.
