N24054 NSDStB SPORTS SHIRT & SHORT PANTS. (Sporthemd und Kniehose) 

BACKGROUND: The NSDStB, "National Sozialistische Deutscher Studentenbund" (National Socialist German Students’-league) was originally formed as a semi-autonomous organization in 1926, infiltrating the majority of institutions by 1930, and was under full control of the Nazi Party by 1934. 

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: A stretch cotton, sleeveless white sports shirt, and black shorts of the same material. The shirt has a 3 1/8" tall, horizontal black band across its chest and back, to the front of which is sewn a machine woven Studentenbund insignia. The insignia is in the form of an eagle with outstretched wings, which clutches an elongated, mobile swastika in its talons, which has red between its upper and lower arms. Wear may be seen to the eagle’s breast and right facing wing. Sewn to the collar of the shirt is a 2 3/4" x 1 1/8", white cotton RZM, "Reichszeugmeisterei" (National-materiel-control-office), tag. A small tag sewn not far from it has "4," in red, woven to it. The shirt has light age and usage soiling, but is intact with, aside from its insignia, no significant wear. The shorts, which appear never to have been used, are relatively featureless but for black, buttonholed tie tapes, and blackened alloy buttons, to the forward exterior waistband, and a small tag with "6," in red, woven to it to the rear interior waistband. A rare, and complete, grouping.
