N12154 FIRST PATTERN "NAT.SOZ.FRAUNENSCHAFT" MEMBER'S BADGE. (Mitgliedabzeichen) 

BACKGROUND: The "Nat. Soz. Frauenschaft" (National Socialist Women’s-organization) was formed by absorbing the earlier "Deutsches Frauenwerk" (German Women’s-welfare-organization), and the "Deutscher Frauenorden" (German Women’s-order), into a single national organization. The first pattern Frauenschaft member’s badge followed the design of the earlier "Deutscher Frauenorden" badge, as introduced in the mid-1920s, with minor variations. In 1938 the first pattern badge was replaced with a modified second pattern member’s badge, which followed the design of the earlier "Deutsches Frauenwerk" badge.  

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: The alloy badge takes the form of a 1 3/4" tall inverted triangle with a 1 1/2" wide top edge. "Nat. Soz. Frauenschaft" is to the white band to the top of the obverse, underneath of which is a white cross against a black background. To the center of the cross is a red, static swastika, and "G" is to its left arm, "H" to its right, and "L" to its base. These Gothic letters signify the Frauenschaft motto, "Glaube, Hoffnung, Liebe" (Faith, Hope, Love). All of the letters, and the edges of the swastika, cross, and the badge itself, are in the same gilt color as its alloy base. A horizontal pin-back device is crimped to a plate brazed to the top of its reverse, beneath which is embossed "92" (the manufacturer’s code for Karl Wild of Hamburg) and an RZM, "Reichszeugmeisterei" (National-material-control-office), logo. Light age soiling and surface scratching is evident, most noticeably to the white enamel work, and there is a very small chip to its lowermost point, and a slightly larger one to its upper left corner.
