N12050 DAF MESS HALL BOWL.
(Napf) Large, heavy fire glazed, white stoneware construction bowl with an 8 7/8" diameter top and a 4 1/2" diameter bottom. The bowl has dual, decorative, brownish/red, print under glaze, outer edge stripes. The bottom of the bowl is well marked with green, printed under glaze, cogged wheel and swastika, DAF emblem and script, "Modell des Amtes Schönheit der Arbeit" (Official Pattern, Beauty of Labor). The bottom of the bowl also has green, print under glaze, manufacturers logo and script consisting of a horizontally oval outer border encompassing a lion with the initials, "LHS", and, "Bavaria Germany", and manufacturers name that appears to be, "Kutschenreuther Selb". The bowl shows light to moderate surface scratching and minor age toning. Of Note: The Beauty of Labor organization was a sub-section of the KdF, Kraft durch Freude, (Strength through Joy), organization which in turn was a sub-section of the DAF, Deutsche Arbeits Front, (German Labor Front). The SdA was established in 1934, and was headed by Albert Speer who was responsible for improving working conditions in factories, including setting up canteens and supplying the flatware and cutlery.GRADE ***1/2 PRICE $40.00
