N10654 DRL FLAG POLE FINIAL.
(Fahnenspitzen)BACKGROUND: The DRL, "Deutschen Reichsbundes für Leibesübungen" (German State-league for Physical-training), incorporated the NSRL,"National Sozialistische Reichsbund für Leibesübungen" (National Socialist State-league for Physical-training), into it in 1938. The original NSRL emblem, being a national eagle with down-swept wings and a mobile swastika superimposed on its breast, was a carried over to the DRL.
PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: The aluminum flag pole finial, which is 4 1/4" at its widest and 10 3/8" in overall height, features the aforementioned eagle and swastika, to both sides, each of whose swastikas are highlighted in black enamel, all of which appears to have been retained. The eagles are surrounded by a border which comes to a point at its apex. The bottom of the border is fixed unto a stepped base, which terminates in a 2" deep socket whose internal diameter is 1 3/16". Superficial surface scratching and pitting, and age dulling and darkening, particularly to the recesses, is evident throughout.
