N10052 POLISH NATIONAL'S EMPLOYMENT RECORD BOOK. (Arbeitsbuch) A 4" x 5 5/8", tri-lingual, thirty-two page "Arbeitskarte" (Labor-card, although actually more like a labor-booklet), to whose black and white card stock cover is printed "Generalgouvernement" (General-government; referring to occupied Poland) above "Arbeitskarte" and its translation into Ukranian and Polish. To the first page, beneath a repetition of its titles, is the book’s number and the individual’s name and signature. The second page details the individual’s personal information. Page "2a," which has "Eintragungen vom Arbeitsamt und des Unternehmers" (Entries by-the Labor-office and the Employers) to the top of it, has eight horizontal blocks beneath it, all left blank. The third page, entitled "Berufsausbildung" (Vocational-development), outlines their professional training, although it is also left blank, and the following page "3a" is comprised of a large block for additional entries, and is similarly left blank. The fourth page is entitled "Bisherige Beschäftigungsarten v. längerer Dauer" (Hitherto Employments of long Duration), and chronicles their work history prior to that recorded in this book. It would appear that the bearer worked as a forester from 1932 until 1938, and then as a surveyor from 1938 until 1942. To the fifth page is the issuing authority’s stamps and signature, in this case from "Der Stadthauptmann Abeitsamt in Jaslo" (The Civic-local-government-official[‘s] Labor-office in Jaslo). The following fourteen pages chronicle the individual’s work history from the issuance of this booklet, with only the first block of the first page, which appears to indicate that he was a timber merchant, filled out in this case. Pages twenty to thirty have twenty-seven "Anmerkungen für Arbeitskarteninhaber und Unternehmer" (Notes for [the] Labor-card-holder and Employer) to them, first in German, then Ukrainian, and finally in Polish. All of the interior pages have a shadow-printed repetition of "Generalgouvernement" diagonally across their patterned background. To the upper part of the reverse cover is a space for the individual’s signature. The booklet is typically, lightly age and usage soiled, with several creases to its covers, but is otherwise intact and legible.
