N082159 DLV EM/NCO'S BELT BUCKLE. (Koppelschloß)
BACKGROUND: The DLV, "Deutscher Luftsport Verband" (German Air-sport Association), was established by forcibly, although legally, incorporating all civilian flying clubs, as well as the flying units of the SA and SS, into it in 1933. After 1935, when the secrecy regarding aerial re-armament was lifted, it served mostly as an Air force reserve and training ground for future members of the Luftwaffe. It was itself incorporated into the NSFK, "Nationalsozialistisches Fliegerkorps" (National-socialist Flying-corps), in 1937.
PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Approximately 64mm x 48mm (for the standard 45mm belt), slightly convex, stamped alloy, matte nickel-silver plated, one-piece construction, DLV belt buckle. Against its pebbled, obverse field is a wreath of laurels which encircles, to its pebbled, domed center, a straight spread-winged eagle clutching a wreathed, mobile swastika in its talons. The swastika is recessed and enameled in black. The straight wings of this early, political-style eagle distinguishes the buckle as that used by the DLV from the otherwise identical buckle used by the RLB, or RLSV. The reverse is the mirror image of the obverse, with a raised buckle catch, and a metal prong bar with dual prongs, for the belt’s retaining tongue. Unmarked. Very nice example and hard to find.
