N074359 NSFK/CIVIL GLIDING PROFICIENCY BADGE CLASS "C". (Segelflieger-C-Abzeichen Gleitfleigerprüfung ‘C’)
BACKGROUND: The International Aeronautical Federation, a pre-WWII organization, awarded a series of proficiency badges to glider pilots on the successful completion of the appropriate tests and gliding trials. Originally, these awards were constructed of metal with enamel work. In 1933 the German civil glider clubs introduced a cloth version to be worn on the left breast. All German civil gliding clubs were absorbed into the DLV in March 1933, and these, in turn, were absorbed into the NSFK in 1937. The "C" class certificate was awarded for the completion of a five minute solo flight without loss of altitude.
PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: A "C" class gliding proficiency badge, comprised of circular border with three embroidered "gulls". Machine embroidered in silver/grey thread on a grey wool, 45mm diameter, backing. Light age soiling is also evident to the obverse, but other wise excellent.
