N051059 NSDAP POLITICAL LEADER'S OVERSEAS CAP. (Lagermütze)

BACKGROUND: Introduced in 1934, the Lagermütze was used by Political Leader while on training courses and by certain units at Party Rallies in 1934 and 1935. Early examples were plain and unpiped, while the later example and had piping in the color of the various schools, Reichschule, Gauschule and Kreisschule.

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: A light brown-colored wool cap, with an expansion fold along its crown and fold-down side panels. The side panels scallop downwards towards the front of the cap, where they are sewn to it at the top of their vertical seam. Positioned over the center of this forward, vertical seam is a 13/16" diameter, convex, gilt-washed metal button, to whose obverse is embossed a early spread-winged political eagle with a static swastika in its talons, all against a pebbled background. To the reverse of the button is stamped a faint RZM, "Reichszeugmeisterei" (National-materiel-control-office), logo, and " the manufacturer’s code. Sewn to the left side panel is a brown rayon inverted triangle, 1 1/2" tall and 2 1/2" along its top, unto which is machine woven, in aluminum wire, an eagle with spread wings and a wreathed, mobile swastika in its talons. The aluminum wire is still very bright. The interior, which is fully lined in brown-colored cotton/rayon. RZM oilcloth tag is now gone, but you can see the original stitching outline. Approximately a size 58. Very nice, clean example.
