BACKGROUND: The NSDMB, "National Sozialistische Deutscher Marine Bund" (National Socialist German Navy League), was the new name, adopted by its members in 1935, for the earlier "Bund Deutscher Marine Vereine" (League [of the] German Navy Association). In 1938 it was attached to the NS-RKB, "Nationalsozialistische-Reichskriegerbund," who introduced a new pattern national eagle for wear on the breast and visor cap, which was almost identical to the earlier "Soldatenbund" (Soldiers’-league) eagle. The NSDMB came under the control of the "Kriegsmarine" (Navy) in 1943.

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Deep navy blue wool construction visor cap. The cap features a one-piece circular crown, a body with seams to each of its cardinal points, a one-piece center band whose vertical seam is to the reverse, and a blackened leather visor. The black ribbed center band features with Naval Veterans hand embroidered gold bullion wreath with anchor device. Fixed by the brass Naval anchor buttons positioned over each ear is a 1/2" wide, blackened leather chin strap, with two black-painted metal adjusting buckles along its length. The leather visor has blackened canvas reinforcing stitched along its edge. The interior of the cap is fully lined in mid-blue ribbed rayon, and features a 1 5/8" wide, thin, tan leather sweatband. A clear, celluloid sweat diamond is sewn to the interior crown, underneath of which is ink stamped, the veterans eagle and the letters "NSDMB" (National Sozialistische Deutscher Marine Bund). There is one tear to the sweat shield. Still have original owners name tag. Scarce cap in excellent condition.
