BACKGROUND: The "Nat. Soz. Frauenschaft" (National Socialist Women’s-organization) was formed by absorbing the earlier "Deutsches Frauenwerk" (German Women’s-welfare-organization), and the "Deutscher Frauenorden" (German Women’s-order), into a single national organization. The Deutscher Frauenhilfsdienst (German woman's help service) was a sub organization of the Nat. Soz. Frauenschaft that dealt with domestic issues related to the war effort such as childcare and assisting farmers.

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Alloy badge takes the form of a 40mm circle. It features a black enameled central field, edged in silver, upon which is a silver washed mobile swastika above a "Leben-rune" (Life-rune). Features the script, " Deutscher Frauenhilfsdienst". To the reverse is its original horizontal pin-back device. Marked "Ges. Gesch." ("Gesetzlich Geschützt;" Protected by Law) and "A. STÜBBUE BERLIN". Very nice example, scarce.
