N03951 1935 POCKET CALENDER/DIARY BOOKLET.
(Taschenkalender) A 2 3/4" x 4 3/8", 252 page book, upon whose black, cross-hatched leatherette cover is impressed, to the lower right, "Uedemer Bank Uedem (Niederrhein)." Both the opening and closing end-papers of the book feature advertisements for the aforementioned bank. The first page is entitled "Merkbuch 1935" (Notebook 1935), and is followed by 118 pages of calendar entries; from the third of January 1935, to the thirty-first of March 1936. Each of these pages feature entries for three or four days, all of which are un-annotated. Six pages with lines for addresses and telephone numbers are next, left blank, and 42 blank pages are after that, four of which have handwritten notes in pencil. Several pages listing the Saints and religious festivals for each day of the year are next, as are pages detailing postal rates and train fares. Black and white illustrations of the emblems of the various National Socialist organizations, a selection of their flags, and a chart of the rank insignia of the S.A. and S.S. follows. The book continues with charts of weights, measures, exchange rates, elements, population densities, license plate codes, road signs, and more. The final twenty-four pages are for additional telephone numbers, but have no entries. Slipped between the pages of the book are several postage stamps featuring von Hindenburg, a color uniform card of a soldier from the era of "Friedrich der Großen," two 25 pfenning notes from 1922, an Italian 1 Lira note from 1939, several "Speisekartoffeln" (Food-potato) coupons from 1945, and a 1943 dated notice which appears to concern the seating in the state theater and whose postage stamp features a portrait of Hitler. This latter notice is presently torn into two pieces, but is still perfectly legible. The book itself has separated from its covers, but is otherwise intact, with light to moderate age soiling and yellowing.GRADE *** PRICE $35.00
