BACKGROUND: The Werkschutz, (Factory defence), personnel were either hired security guards or internal security personnel employed by factories as a protection force. Most wore some type of uniform provided by the security company or the factory. Although the personnel would be considered civilians the NSDAP had dictated that the factories provide a certain degree of self defence. 

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: 9.5cm tall x 7.5cm wide, blue/grey wool oval base with hand embroidered likeness of a factory, partial cogged wheel with a shield with a swastika superimposed on top. Factory and cog wheel are in silver/aluminum threads with black thread accents. Shield is in light tan threads bordered in silver/aluminum threads and swastika is in black threads also with a silver/aluminum border. Oval wool base is trimmed in heavy twisted silver/aluminum cord. Original protective black paper backing partial remains intact to reverse. Silver/aluminum all shows moderate oxidization and base edge shows minor fraying. Insignia worn on the upper left sleeve of the tunic and greatcoat. The aluminum embroidery and cord trim indicates an leaders badge. Scarce.
