N035862 REICHSNÄHRSTAND MEDAL OF MERIT.
(Reichsnährstand Verdienstmedaille)BACKGROUND: The Reichsnährstand, (National Food Producers), organization was instituted on September 13TH 1933, by Richard-Walther Darré, in his position as, Reichsminister für Ernährung und Landwirtscahft, (National Agricultural Leader and Minister of Food). The organization was responsible for all aspects of food production and distribution in the Third Reich, and worked closely with other organizations including the HJ Landjahr and Landdienst. Darrés, "Blood & Soil" ideas were a successful propaganda tool used to foster pride and increase agricultural production.
PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Attractive, struck, magnetic alloy medal with a bronze finish that is approximately 5cm in diameter featuring an eagle with swastika held in the claws to the front while the reverse has written to the perimeter "Der Richsministers fur Ernahrung und Landwirtschaft" or "Reichminister for Food and Agriculture." The central inscription reads "For Special Services in Breeding. Included is a burgundy case with a gilt eagle clutching a wreathed with a swastika. The box measures approximately 8cm x 8cm x 2.5cm with a push release to the front. On the reverse is embossed "Preuss. Staatsmunze Berliln C.2." The inside white satin pillow has pulled away from the lid with tearing to the fabric along the hinge crease. The bottom portion is lined with burgundy velvet that is formed to fit the medal. There is obvious wear to the lining’s, but overall this is a very nice example.
