N030658 NATIONAL FORESTRY OFFICIAL'S SERVICE TUNIC & PANTS. (Dienstanzug)
BACKGROUND: Forestry and hunting in Germany enjoys a long history and traditions that continue to the present day. In July of 1933, Hermann Göring was appointed as "Reichsforst und Jägermeister" (National-forestry and Hunting-master), as head of the "Reichsforstamt" (National-forestry-department). In that capacity he was in charge of administering all aspects of forestry and hunting, including the development, maintenance and conservation of all of the forests and wild game within Germany. The "Reichsforstamt" was sub-divided into four main departments: the "Gemeinde Forst Dienst" (General Forestry Service), "Privat Forst Dienst" (Private Forestry Service), "Heeres Forst Dienst" (Army Forestry Service), and the "Luftwaffe Forst Dienst" (Air-force Forestry Service). Personnel in all four services were assigned a uniform.
PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: The dark-teal wool single breasted tunic has a pleated patch pocket to each breast, both with straight-edged flaps secured by a single button, and two pleated "saddlebag" hip pockets, with similar closures. Its lay-down collar has silver twisted piping along its outside edges. The collar is made of dark green wool which matches the dark green piping that descends and frames the front closure and the pocket flaps. Tunic comes the nice matched pair of collar tabs for the rank of Revierforester, executed in very nicely done hand embroidery in silver wire. Stitching to the collar tabs looks to be period. The shoulder boards are for the incorrect rank of Forstamtman and look to be restored to the tunic. The tunic should have the correct Revierforester shoulder boards restored to it. There are four buttons on the front, all of the buttons are green bakelite and look to have original stitching. The interior is made of a dark olive rayon. The arms are lined in white. Interior dagger hanger is still present. Nice private tailors label. Tunic is approximately a size 42 chest. Comes with a very nice pair of matching pants. Pants are in superb untouched original condition. Fully piped in green wool down each leg. All original buttons. Approximately size 32". Uniform comes complete with a nice original forestry Aiguillette.
