N027357 NSKOV VISOR CAP EAGLE. (Mützen Abzeichen)
BACKGROUND: The NSKOV, "National Sozialistische Kriegsopferversorung" (National Socialist War-disabled-support [Organization]), was formed in 1930 and institutionalized in 1933, as an associated society assisting NSDAP party members who had become disabled as a result of war injuries. This form of cap badge was used between 1937 and 1940, those after 1940 having a right-facing eagle.
PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: A stamped alloy visor cap badge, approximately 1 7/8" square, in the form of a stylized eagle with down-swept wings, clutching "NSKOV" in its talons, and with that organization’s emblem superimposed to its breast. The emblem is comprised of a black mobile swastika within a circle bordered in red, the circle set against a black Iron Cross, and the Iron Cross set against a vertical sword, which has an oval oak leaf wreath surrounding it. Two of the three original pins are complete to the reverse. The original silver wash to the obverse has darkened to its recesses and has worn to its highlights, although all of the enamel details to the NSKOV emblem have been retained.
