N027157 STATE SHOOTING ASSOCIATION AWARD. (Standschützenverband-auszeichnung) 

A shield-shaped, bronze-colored metal award with enamel detailing, 3/4" wide and 15/16" tall. To the top of the obverse of the award is embossed "1944," bracketed by oak leaves, and "Standschützenverband" (State-shooting-association) is embossed around the sides and bottom of the shield. To its center is a smaller shield, within which is a red enameled eagle with down-swept wings, with laurels to either side of its head, and which clutches a circular, white target in its talons, over which is superimposed a mobile swastika. To the reverse of the award is a vertical pin-back device, crimped to a soldered, oval plate. The reverse retains most of a dull, silver wash, and traces of its may be seen along the sides of the award, which may imply that the obverse was originally silver washed. The obverse presently has an overall dull patina to it, with age darkening to its recesses. All of its enamel work, however, has been fully retained.
