N026856 SA MOUNTAIN TROOP SA-TRUPPFÜHRER'S SERVICE TUNIC. (SA-Bergrock)
BACKGROUND: SA mountain Standartes (Gebirgsjäger Standarten) were drawn from mountain/alpine area within Germany. They were considered to be specialist units and were referred to as "Sonder Stanarten". As such, they had their own unique uniform and insignia designed for wear and use.
PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Very rare SA-Bergrock. Tunic is constructed in a mid-brown cloth color. Single-breasted tunic with a pleated patch pocket to each breast, both with scalloped flaps secured by a single button, and two flash slash hip pockets, both with straight-edged flaps and single buttons. Its four button front closure leads up to fold-back lapels and a lay-down collar. The pebbled buttons are maker marked RZM M5/9 for "Matth. Oechsler & Sohne, Ansbach", all of which retain their original stitching. There is a single eyelet to either side of the collar. Also, to the reverse of the right hand collar is sewn a button tab which is used to secure the collar to a single button on the reverse of the lapel. This was used to button up the tunic all the way to the neck in cold weather conditions. The collar is completely piped in alternating brown and silver cord. Collar tabs are dark wine red wool construction with chain stitched "GJ9" (Gebirgsjäger-Standarte 9) in white. The single rank tab bears two pips for a SA-Truppführer. Both tabs are piped in white wool. The tunics left sleeve still retains its original NSDAP armband. Armband is of the multi-piece wool construction with black taped swastika. The single shoulder board is constructed with the upper portion in interwoven brown and alternating silver. The base color to the board is in dark green wool. Board still retains its original paper RZM tag. Both cuffs are of the adjustable type with a unique elastic inner sleeve cuff for wind protection, this of course is a unique feature to the Bergrock. The interior of the tunic is of partially lined type. Around the lower section, again unique to the Bergrock, is an elastic re-enforced flap that could be buttoned up for wind protection. Inside the back section of the liner is the original oilcloth RZM tag. "SA Dienstrock". The is one small stain to the liner on the inside left chest area. Tunic is in overall superb condition. Roughly a size 36 chest. Exceptional and rare.
