N026257 NSKK OVERSEAS CAP. (Feldmütze)
BACKGROUND: First introduced in August 1935, the cap basically remained unchanged until 1940 when a new slightly simplified lighter weight version was introduced. The biggest difference in the second pattern cap was the turn down visor flap was removed from the manufacturing process. Both patterns where worn side by side until the wars end in 1945.
PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: First pattern cap as introduced in early 1935 with the front fold down cloth visor. Black wool rayon blend cap with fold down scalloped sides. Sides have two hooks to keep the flaps in the upright position, being hooked to the side ventilation grommets. Two 14mm aluminum buttons with NSKK eagle on a spoked wheel stitched to front center seam. Reverse of buttons are RZM and maker marked. First pattern (1935-39) machine woven NSKK eagle in silver/aluminum thread on a dark blue inverted triangular rayon base with original hand stitching to cap. Color and pattern signify insignia worn by a Motor Brigade Hesse NSKK member. Cap is for the rank of Antwarter (candidate) or a NSKK-Mann. Cap fully lined in black cotton/rayon twill and has the correct oilcloth RZM tag. Overall excellent untouched original condition.
