N024756 TRANSPORT CORPS "SPEER" EM/NCO'S COLLAR TAB. (Kragenspiegel)
BACKGROUND: Transport groups "Speer" and "Todt" were re-organized in late 1944 into "Transportkorps Speer," necessitating new uniforms and rank insignia. The new collar patches were worn in matching pairs, their base color indicating the branch of service, while the shoulder straps, similar to those used by the army, indicating the specific rank.
PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: A right collar patch, in the form of a 3 1/8" x 1 1/2" parallelogram, upon whose black wool base is machine embroidered, in silver-aluminum, the stylized letters "S" and "P." Black was the color typically associated with EM/NCO ranks. Twisted silver-aluminum cord runs along the edges of the patch. The extensions of its wool obverse are folded over the muslin backing to its reverse. Light wear is evident to the highlights of its silver-aluminum elements, and its black base exhibits moderate nap wear.
