BACKGROUND: Forestry and hunting in Germany enjoys a long, illustrious history and tradition that continues to the present day. On July 8TH 1933 Hermann Göring was appointed as Reichsforst und Jägermeister, (National Forestry and Hunting Master), as head of the, Reichsforstamt, (National Forestry Department), in charge of administration of all aspects of forestry and hunting including the development, maintenance and conservation of all the forests and wild game within Germany. The Reichsforstamt was sub-divided into four main departments of; Gemeinde Forst Dienst, (General Forestry Service), Privat Forst Dienst, (Private Forestry Service), Heeres Forst Dienst, (Army Forestry Service), and the Luftwaffe Forst Dienst, (Air-force Forestry Service). Personnel serving in all four services were assigned a uniform which included a visor cap, with minor variations in insignia.

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Nice quality, private purchase, dark, mottled, grey/green wool construction cap with dark green wool centerband and piping to crown edge and top of centerband. Cap has moderate internal padding and a vertical stiffener to interior front center are still intact and give the cap a nice shape with a high central peak. Front center of cap has a stamped aluminum national eagle. Looks like there was another eagle on it at one time as I noticed a second set of holes in a lower position. Front center of the centerband has a horizontal elongated, aluminum wreath and national tri-color cockade in black and aluminum. The red felt center insert for the cockade is missing. Cap has a twisted silver/aluminum chin cord attached by two, small, silver washed pebbled sheet metal buttons. Black vulcanfiber visor with raised lip to forward edge is also intact and untouched. Interior of the cap is fully lined in golden yellow rayon. Crown lining has clear celluloid sweat diamond which is fully intact . Sweat diamond has gilted manufacturers logo. Cap has a high quality tan leather sweatband with the original owners initials punched into the leather in the typical fashion. Couple of very tiny moth nips, but it out of the way locations. Cap is roughly size 58. Nice high quality example.
