BACKGROUND: The BDM, "Bund Deutscher Mädel" (League [of] German Girls), was the female version of the Hitler Youth, whose first female group, established in 1927, evolved into the BDM by July of 1930, and by July of 1932 it had gained equal political status with the HJ.

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: A multi-piece, cotton-rayon construction pennant, 11" across with a 7" tall hoist edge. Its dual-ply black field is stitched along its edges. Sewn to both side are the typical, machine woven, 3 5/8" tall Hitler Youth emblems. Stitching to one of the emblems is starting to pull loose to one side. Its hoist edge has a white band stitched to it which is folded over and sewn to form a tunnel loop. Two nickel-silver plated metal split rings are sewn to each end of the bunting material.
