N020158 DJ MEMBER'S IDENTIFICATION CARD.
(Mitglieds-Ausweis)BACKGROUND: The DJ, Deutsche Jungvolk, (German Youth), originated in Vienna Austria in 1929, and was eventually to become the young branch of the HJ, for boys from 10 to 14 years old. The sigrune first became associated with the DJ on November 9TH 1929, the sixth anniversary of the failed Beer Hall Putsch, when the Gauleiter of Vienna presented them with their first official flag, consisting of a black field with a central silver sigrune. The sigrune was adopted as the official emblem of the DJ
PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: A roughly, 4 3/4" x 3 1/8", single fold, mid-weight, tan cardstock identification card with black printed, typed, handwritten and inkstamped information. The front cover features black printed Gothic script "Mitglieds=Ausweis für das Deutsche Jungvolk in der Hitler=Jugend" (Member identification card for the German Young People in the Hitler youth), and the HJ diamond emblem. The first internal page has a black and white photograph of the recipient in a his DJ uniform, glued in place. The card also has the facsimile signature of Reichsjugendführer, Baldur von Schirach. The card has a HJ diamond inkstamp to the exterior. The back cover of the card has two dues stamps attached and multiple pink stains where other stamps were attached. The card is in overall good condition with minor age and usage toning and some minor creasing.
