BACKGROUND: The DRKB, "Deutscher Reichs-Krieger-Bund" (German National-veterans’-association), was formed during WWI, and based on the DKB, "Deutscher Krieger-Bund," originally formed in the 1870s. By 1936 it had incorporated most of the varied veterans’ associations into it, and was itself re-named the NS-RKB, "Nationalsozialistische Reichskriegerbund" (National-socialist State-veterans’-organization), in 1938. 

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Roughly 8cm tall, 32cm long, black wool armband with second pattern, (circa 1936), machine woven Kyffhäuserbund emblem, horizontal silver/aluminum rank tress and ribbed pink rayon chevron. Shield shaped Kyffhäuserbund emblem features a black silhouette of the Kyffhäuser monument on a white background field above a red base with small white circular field and black canted swastika. Emblem is mounted above a 10mm wide horizontal silver/aluminum rank tress strip. Rank tress indicates an Officer’s rank. Couple of small moth holes on the blue wool. The veteran have attached his original visor cap insignia to the front of the armband, no doubt as a keep sake. The stamped alloy insignia, roughly in the form of an oval, 40mm wide and 50mm tall. To its oval center is the image of the "Kyffhäuser," a monument to a united Germany located in Saxony, with "Der Kyffhäuserbund" arching above it, and "Seinem Kameraden" beneath. A bound, open-topped wreath of oak leaves is along the base of the center oval, and rays project outwards along its top. Nice!

This insignia is NOT a visor cap insignia. Its the order of merit 2nd class of NS-Reichskriegerbund (1st class is golden) and its correct worn on members armband covering the monument of Kyffhäuser. There a four different models: 1) silver with inscription : Der Kyffhäuserbund seinem Kameraden 2) gold with inscription : Der Kyffhäuserbund seinem Kameraden 3) silver with inscription: Der NS-Reichskriegerbund seinem Kameraden 4) gold with inscription: Der NS-Reichskriegerbund seinem Kameraden.
