N013158 "HJ -HITLERJUNGE" BROWN SERVICE SHIRT. (Diensthemd) A tan-colored cotton twill, long-sleeved, three-quarter-length pull-over shirt whose four button front closure descends 16" from its lay-down collar. A pleated patch pocket with a scalloped button-down flap, and button, is to each breast. The fold-back French cuffs also each feature, to either side of their 7" seam slashes, a button and dual buttonholes. The 5/8" diameter buttons to the cuffs, and the lower three to the front closure, as well as the slightly larger ones to the pockets, are all of light brown-colored bakelite, upon each of whose convex surfaces are four decorative divisions, simulating interwoven strips of leather, with "H.J." embossed within one, and "D.J." within another. An RZM, "Reichszeugmeisterei" (National-material-control-office), logo and "A10/4," being a manufacturer’s code, is embossed to the reverses of each of the front closure buttons, while those to the cuffs and the right pocket have "A10/5" to their reverses, and the left pocket button has "A10/25" to its reverse. The 9/16" diameter, light brown bakelite button to the throat of the front closure has a plain obverse, but has an RZM logo and "A10/13" embossed to its reverse. To each shoulder are sewn the bases of second pattern (1938-1945), black rayon construction shoulder straps, each 1 3/8" wide and 4 1/4" long, with their free ends both coming to a point with a buttonhole. Red piping, for the General HJ, is to all but their base edges, and machine woven to their obverses, also in red, are the "Bann" (Regiment) numerals "767." These often followed the numbers of an Army regiment raised in the same area. The paper remnants of an RZM tag may be seen to the reverse of the right strap. Through each strap’s buttonhole are fed 3/4" diameter, convex alloy buttons, both of whose pebbled obverses feature the embossed "Gefolgschaft" (Company) number "4." These were always numbered from one to four. To each of their concave reverses is a central eye, around which is stamped an RZM logo and what appears to be "M5/71," the manufacture’s code for Overhoff & Cie of Lüdenscheid. Although the shoulder straps exhibit only light age soiling, their grey buttons both have a moderate to heavy white patina to them. To the upper left sleeve is sewn an identifying district sleeve triangle, whose black rayon base measures 3 5/8" across, with a central height of 1 3/4". Its edges feature a golden-yellow border, within which is the golden-yellow, machine woven Gothic script, "West" above "Moselland." The district "West Moselland" was along the Belgian border. The triangle is only lightly age soiled. Beneath it is sewn an approximately 15" x 4", three-piece construction rayon armband, upon whose red base is sewn a central, 1" wide, white horizontal stripe, with a white diamond with a machine woven black mobile swastika sewn over it. The armband’s vertical seam is to the reverse. The armband is lightly age soiled and wrinkled. Approximately 9" tall vents rise from the base of either side of the shirt. Ink stamped to its interior collar is "BP" within a circle, followed by what appears to be "5318," then "37/105," and finally, "408." The shirt exhibits light age and usage soiling throughout, and has a couple of small holes to its reverse. Approximately a size 40. Of Note: In August of 1935 the 1933 pattern HJ/DJ service shirt was replaced with a waist-length blouse, constructed of a heavier cotton twill, being more of a tunic than a shirt.
