N011163 NSRL/DRL SPORTS FLAG. (Fahne)
BACKGROUND: The DRL, "Deutschen Reichsbundes für Leibesübungen" (German State-league for Physical-training), incorporated the NSRL, "National Sozialistische Reichsbund für Leibesübungen" (National Socialist State-league for Physical-training), into it in 1938. The original NSRL emblem, being a national eagle with down-swept wings and a mobile swastika superimposed on its breast, was a carried over to the DRL.
PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: An approximately 170cm x 100cm, printed cotton flag, whose red field is broken in the center by an 30cm wide white column, which widens into a 60cm diameter circle to its center, against which is printed a black NSRL eagle with a white swastika superimposed upon its breast. Bunting edge is 3cm in width with the original rope still present. To the red field near the other end of the tunnel loop is ink stamped a shield with a cross within it, no doubt a manufacturer’s logo. Well marked "NSRL 1.7 x 100". The flag has a few small holes, but not too bad. There are two metal grommets on the top side of the flag near the eagles head and two, to the fly end. The top fly end grommet is now missing. Interesting arrangement, no doubt for use on hanging the flag to a wall.
