PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: A half-fold, card-stock certificate from the "Deutsche Lebens-Rettungs-Gemeinschaft" (German Life-Saving-Association), measuring 3 1/2" x 5 1/4" with the cover closed. The cover has a light green background, the organization’s name to the top, an illustration of a rescuer carrying a victim to shore to the center, "Prüfungs - Ausweis Für Den Grundschein" (Examination - Identification Card for the Basic Certificate) beneath that, and "D.L.R.G." hole punched through the cover to the base. The interior pages have the same light green background, with the interior of the front cover indicating the recipient’s name and address, that he has passed the listed tests to receive this certificate, an official stamp, and the date, 20 October 1929. The facing page has a glued photograph of the recipient with official stamps and his signature beneath. Below his signature is a list of the requirements for the advanced certificate. The back cover has a list of the duties the card holder is obligated to perform. The card is in very good condition with some light usage stains and minor corner damage.
