N002356 "REICHSBAHN-WASSERSCHUTZPOLIZEI" SERVICE DAGGER HANGERS. (Dolchgehänge) A set of hangers for, as is determined largely by its combination of black leather bands with gilt-washed alloy elements, the dagger introduced in 1938 and issued to what was a small number of Railway-water protection police. The 3/4" wide leather bands each have four parallel lines of stitching to them, and both have one of their ends wrapped and sewn around the base of the same pebbled alloy sprig clip, while each of their other ends are wrapped and sewn around oval alloy buckles decorated with oak leaves. The leather bands double back through their respective buckles, creating loops, through each of which pass the bases of spring-loaded clips. Both of these loops are cinched by alloy bands decorated with oak leaves. The spring-loaded clips each have oak leaf motifs embossed beneath their openings, and "D.R.G.M." ("Deutsche Reichs Gebrauchsmuster," or, German National Registered-design) is stamped to each of their reverses. The pebbled spring clip has "D.R.G.M.," an RZM ("Reichszeugmeisterei," or, National-material-control-office) logo, and "M5/10," the manufacturer’s code for Wilhelm Deus of Solingen, embossed to its reverse. Although most of the gilt finish has worn to the buckles and clips, traces of it maybe seen to all of them, more so to the retaining bands. The leather has stiffened somewhat with age, exhibits chafe wear along its edges, and has torn loose from its stitching where it is wrapped around the spring clip. Moderate age soiling is evident throughout. Very rare.
