N002061 1933 TRIER "IRON SHIRT" BADGE. (Triertag Abzeichen) A stamped alloy badge with a bronze wash in the form of a Maltese cross. To its circular center is the outline of an "Iron Shirt," which is a medieval motif from Trier, which was originally a Roman colonial city. "Trier" and "1933" are embossed to the lower edges of this central disk. A vertical pin-back device is crimped to a circular plate to its reverse, which has "Ges. Gesch." ("Gesetzlich Geschützt;" Protected by Law) stamped to either side of it. What must be the maker’s mark is embossed along the hollow-backed inside of the center, but is mostly obscured by the crimped plate.
