The scabbard is leather which is rare for a staff and field, there are no breaks in the leather but there are some shallow cracks to the finish. The finish still has a high gloss luster and the mounts retain approx. 80% of the original gilt finish. The throat is engraved "W.F." and is maker marked "Ames Mfg. Co. Chicopee Mass."
