P10006 UNION M1858 INFANTRY HARDEE HAT.
This pattern hat, from its introduction date 1858, was issue widely to Union troops for the duration of the war from 1861 to 1865. Cap was utilized by all branches of the Union Army, Infantry, Cavalry, Artillery etc etc. Body is made from high grade black felt. Hat is complete with it original Infantry insignia, side hat badge and original hat cord. Hat cord was originally blue at one time (You can see traces of the original color in the unexposed areas), but has been faded do you sun exposer. If you look carefully on the inside of the Infantry Horn you can see were the original brass unit numbers "19" were at one time. Hat also comes complete with its original Ostrich feather/plume. Top inside crown of the hat has its original oilcoth cover marked "US ARMY EXTRA MANUFACTURE". Sweatband is missing. Overall the hat is an excellent example of a piece that was actually there and saw service. Some light moth tracking, and stainage.. but not bad for an item that 140 years plus in age.
