C28354 BOER WAR POW'S TOBACCO PIPE. This pipe is reminiscent of the second Boer War which was held from October 11th 1899, until May 31st 1902. The war was the Boer, settlers known as Voortrekkers who were from Dutch, French and German descent, against the British. The British won. This pipe is a artifact from that time. It appears that a POW, carved this during his time in the camp. The pipe is 5 ½" wide. There are three inscriptions around the design, L.H. Price, 1900 and St Helena. The central design is of a female figure who opens her skirt, it is the Boer insignia.. While in the scroll around it, it states in Dutch, South African Republic (Zuid Afrikaansch Republiek.) The wooden bowl, is unfortunately cracked in three places. One of a kind for sure!
