C12451 U.S. ARMY WWI ARTILLERY PERSONNEL'S M1912 CAMPAIGN CAP. A khaki-brown "rabbitskin" felt hat with a wide brim, reinforced along its edge with five parallel rows of stitching. Its high "Montana" or "Lemon-squeezer" crown has a khaki-painted alloy ventilation grommet to each of its cardinal points. Additional grommets are to each side under the dual cords which surround the headband, for the, absent, chin strap. The cords terminate in the front with a slider and "acorns," all in the red branch-of-service color of the artillery. A brown leather sweatband is to the interior, to the inside of which has been handwritten "26" and the original owner’s name. Underneath it, glued to the interior of the crown, is a small white paper tag with "7 1/4" printed to it. The sweatband exhibits cracking and chafe wear, and the felt has light nap wear and age soiling.
