C11955 U.S. ISSUE SHOVEL & CARRYING CASE.
PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION:
A model 1910 shovel consisting of a steel blade, wood shaft, steel cap piece with wood "T" bar handle. The blade is 8" by 6 5/8", slightly concave, with a broad unpointed tip. There are two pieces of steel welded to the top to form a slit socket to which the wood shaft has been inserted and riveted in place. The shaft is approximately 15" long capped by a steel plate that has been folded around a wood cross bar and riveted to the top. The entire shovel has been repainted a flat green but where some has chipped off there can be seen the original olive green. The carrying case is, 8 1/2" by 7 1/2", made with a single piece of khaki canvas, folded over with a single stitched seam in the shape of the blade. On the front are two pieces of 3/8" wide webbed strapping sewn at a 45 degree angle, one 12 1/2" long with a frayed end and one 5" long folded over to form a loop with a buckle attached, these were used to attach the cover to the shovel handle. On the reverse is a, 2" by 5 1/2", piece of webbing folded over to form a loop through which has been inserted a steel belt hook. There is rust staining inside and out of the carrying case, the steel is starting to tarnish, but all the stitching is still intact.GRADE*** PRICE $117.00
