C10452 FRENCH M1892 "LEBEL" REVOLVER HOLSTER.
A brown leather holster, for the "Pistole Revolveur Modčle 1892," commonly referred to by the name of the chairman of the committee which selected it, a Colonel "Lebel." The pistol remained in service in the French Army for more than 50 years after its original selection. Its holster is made from a single piece of thick leather, the upper part forming the fold-over flap, with the body formed by folding over one projecting side and stitching it in place along the other. A 3/4" x 5 /2" leather strap with a stud hole descends from the forward edge of the fold-over flap, and mates with a metal stud positioned on the front of the body. Sewn along the upper edge of the front of the body, normally concealed by the fold-over flap, are three leather pockets, which, although larger than what would be expected, one must assume were for ammunition. To either side of the reverse of the holster are leather tabs wrapped and sewn around metal rings, with a vertical leather belt loop sewn between them. The original owner’s name is handwritten to the exterior of the fold-over flap. "6119," "5700," and "9616" is impressed to the interior of the fold-over flap. A "997" ink stamp, two ink stamps within horizontal rectangles, neither of which are discernable, and other, indistinct ink stamps, are also to the interior of the flap. The same name seen to the exterior of the flap is prominently handwritten over much of the aforementioned. The leather exhibits the expected surface scratches and light chafe wear, but is still supple, with only one noticeable crack to the fold-over flap.GRADE ***1/2 PRICE $88.00
