C10451 ITALIAN M40 EM/NCO’S SERVICE PANTALOONS.

BACKGROUND: The Italian army had originally adopted a grey-green uniform in 1909 which remained in use until it underwent modifications in 1925. The 1925 pattern uniform underwent further modifications in 1933 and again in 1935. The 1935 pattern uniform remained basically unchanged through-out WWII with a few minor modifications. Generally EM/NCO personnel were issued with pantaloons with puttees or long wool socks and ankle boots while officers wore breeches with the tall boots.

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: EM/NCO’s grey-green, wool/rayon blend construction pantaloons with a subtle gaberdine weave. The pantaloons feature a four button French fly with an additional two buttons at the waistband. Two of the buttons are absent. The pantaloons have a horizontally laid waistband with four vertical belt loops. The front of the pantaloons have dual, vertical, reverse pleats and two vertical side seam slash pockets. The reverse of the pantaloons have dual, vertical tapering darts and two horizontal slash pockets with single button closures. The baggy legs have two vertical tapering darts just above the horizontally laid cuffs. The cuffs each have a small vertical slash to the outside leg seams with dual cotton tie tapes. The legs only run to about mid-calf as the were designed for wear with the puttees or tall wool socks. The interior waistband and cuffs are lined in grey rayon with an HBT weave. The waistband lining is well marked with black inkstamped script, "M.C.M. Verona Sala Taglio". The internal pocket bags are also in the same grey rayon with an HBT weave. The pantaloons are in overall very good condition with minor age toning. The buttons are all the green wooden type and they all appear to have their original stitching. The pantaloons are roughly size 32" waist.
