C063665 "R.A.A.F." OVERSEAS CAP.
BACKGROUND
: The Royal Australian Air Force, as a part of the British Empire, in 1911 approved the establishment of the Central Flying School to aid in the development of aviation within the armed forces. At this time, they were known as The Australian Flying Corps and it was not until 1921 that the prefix "Royal" was attached. The RAAF became the second Royal air arm to be formed within the British Commonwealth.PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: A dark blue wool constructed cap that features fold-down sides and back panels, held in place by hooks, scalloping towards where it is buttoned in the front. Behind the front double button closure is a small fold-down visor. Both of the two small buttons are embossed with a King’s crown over an eagle in flight. The cap is lined with a white tag present that indicates the cap is a size "7 3/8", as well as dated for "1944." Some mothing to the sides, but overall a nice clean example.
