C053765 ITALIAN WWII FLIGHT HELMET. This flight helmet includes the original manufacture heavy cardboard carton. The webbed constructed helmet is made up of five panels with integral communications equipment and white sheep’s wool lining to the ear. The helmet is constructed with a oxygen attachment layout consisting of a partially tunnel looped, adjustable, fabric strap with sheet metal gripper buckle to the reverse and a sheet metal wire loop to the front positioned at the top center of the helmet and a protruding sheet metal hook to either side positioned just below the earphones. The bottom forward edge of each side of the helmet has an extended, leather chin strap with corresponding, pronged, sheet metal closure buckles. Each side of the helmet has earphone receivers housed in black, vertically oval, bakelite panels. Horizontal black leather retaining loops are present behind each panel to secure flight goggles. The reverse nape of the neck of helmet also has a long, extended, black rubberized electrical communications wire. The reverse of the helmet also has attached dual, horizontally extended, leather straps with buckles and internal electrical wires with dual, integral throat microphones in black molded bakelite housings. They are marked "Mircrofono Mag." The straps were designed to fit snugly around the wearer’s neck with the microphones situated so they rested against the wearer’s larynx. The interior is lined with a green silk that has a manufacturer tag sewn denoting that the size is "56" and the name "Casco Radiotelefonico M." The cardboard carton measures approximately 33cm x 28cm x 8cm. A white paper label is affixed to the lid with the same information as the sewn label. There is a small crack in the wire, but otherwise, this is a very nice example.
