C05355 POLISH SOLDIER'S PHOTOGRAPH POSTCARD.
BACKGROUND:
Basic human instinct dictates that soldiers in the field, regardless of nationality, long for their loved ones at home. As a result it was very common for these soldiers to purchase, or appropriate, "sweetheart" items and send them home. Although there was almost an unlimited selection of "sweetheart" items one of the most popular items were the photograph postcards which were relatively inexpensive, easily mailed and distinctly personal.PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Roughly, 5 5/16" x 3 3/8", mid-weight card stock postcard with a black and white full length portrait photograph of three Polish soldiers in dress uniform. One is sitting in a chair with his legs crossed while the other two are to either side. Printed to the reverse is a two piece solid line that splits the card into two sides. One side is blank while the other side has four dotted lines with one solid line below the third dotted line. To the lined side is stamped in blue ink the number "23379" and a word that only the last 4 letters "azna" can be made out. Also hand written in what looks like pencil is "9." in a drawn circle. The photograph is in nice condition though it is slightly yellowed, has some flaking to the edges and a few creases. The reverse has light rust colored spotting and age soiling. Nice example of a group portrait photograph.
