C051766 "REGIMENT DE MAISONNEUVE CANADA" SHOULDER FLASH.
BACKGROUND
: In 1920 the Regiment was formed from the 85th Battalion of Infantry. The name was taken in memory of the founder of Montreal, Paul Chomedey de Maisonneuve. In 1939 the regiment was mobilized as part of the 5th Canadian Infantry Brigade of the 2nd Canadian Infantry Division and was sent to England. The Battalion landed in France in July 1944 where they fought with the 5th Brigade in the Battle of Normandy.PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: A blue machine embroidered badge with yellow thread forming "Regiment" and "deMaisonneuve" with white thread forming "Canada" in between. It is approximately 7cm x 3.5cm with light fraying to the edges as it appears to have been removed from a uniform.
