C048461 WWI AUSTRO-HUNGARIAN BELT BUCKLE.

BACKGROUND: Austria-Hungary was also known as the Austro-Hungarian Empire ,or the Duel Monarchy, that formed in 1867 as a result of the "Compromise of 1867." This new empire was ruled by the House of Habsburg while constitutionally there was a monarchic union between the crowns of the Austrian Empire and the Kingdom of Hungary. The dual monarchy existed for 51 years until 1918 following the military defeat in WWI.

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: A brass 7cm x 5.5cm belt buckle that features the double headed eagle or "Imperial Eagle" that shows an eagle armed and crowned holding a scepter and a sword in Dexter claw while an orb is held in sinister claw both beneath the Austrian Imperial Crown. The front has an indentation to the left which has produced a puncture. The reverse is the exact of the front. A good salty example of the time.
