C04053 SWEDISH NS YOUTH MAGAZINE
. Sweden has had a long association with Germany, dating back to the 1000s, when German merchants created the settlement of Visby, on Gotland island, to trade with the Swedish. This association continued into the 1300s and 1400s, with the German "Hanseatic" League being the dominating force in Sweden’s commercial trade, and Germany and Sweden remained vital trading partners into World War II. No nation was completely immune to the wave of National Socialism and Fascism that swept across Europe in the 1920s and 1930s and, although Sweden officially remained neutral during the Second World War, they were Germany’s main supplier of iron ore, and permitted passage of German troops through their country while, at the same time, denying the allies a similar privilege. As with numerous other European countries, Sweden had its own National Socialist political party during the war, which favored alliance with the Germans. This magazine is 12 1/2" high by 8 3/4" wide. It is completely black and white with 23 pages. On the front there is drawing of a young man playing a drum. All of the writing is Swedish. From the writing on the front, I can conclude that it was published in 1943 and that this was their first release in their 10th season. At the very bottom of the front page, it states the name of the magazine; Ungt Folk, (young folks.) There are many drawings and creative designs all throughout the magazine. It is also obvious that this journal was meant to encourage the participation of the youth within this movement. It is filled with activities the organization offers to the youth. On pager 12 and 13 there is a layout that shows all the youths together either boxing, marching and even, playing in a band. While on page 19, at the very top of the page, there is a design with the swastika in the center. The Sweden youth movement was stylized by the Hitler’s youth movement, therefore, there are many similarities. This journal is in very good condition with yellowing caused by age. The last page as a very small rip in the center where it is bound to the other pages, as well as, on page 14 there is a similar, yet smaller rip. Otherwise, it is in fabulous condition.GRADE**** PRICE $117.00
