C036577 U.S. NAVY PT-BOAT SLEEVE BADGE.

BACKGROUND: The U.S. Navy used very few shoulder sleeve insignias during WWII as the service was conservative with the look of their uniforms. All shoulder patches were abolished for naval personnel on January 17, 1947.

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: An unofficial 1943 version of an early PT boat insignia. This insignia came into being from the nickname, given to the Motor Torpedo Boats, of Mosquito Boats. A 7cm square black wool patch with a white embroidered mosquito carrying a torpedo above some waves in white circle. Nice clean, unused example.
