C035959 U.S. ARMY COLONEL'S DRESS VISOR CAP. White canvas top with white woven centerband and visor. Army officer’s cap badge is 63mm high and 60mm wide with screw post attachment. Badge is die-struck alloy with a fire gilt finish. Badge takes the form of an American Eagle with stars and stripes on the shield that resides on the eagles chest. The eagles right claw holds laurel, while in the left claw, he holds a bundle of arrows. The scroll which is spread on the wings, has the United States Motto of, "E pluribus unum." Which is Latin for, "Out of many, one." This is a direct reference to the thirteen colonies that are united as one nation. This motto was suggested by the first great sea committee in 1776. Above the scroll, there is a round cloud with 13 stars in the middle. Again it alludes to the union. Nice original wire/woven chinstrap complete with both brass buttons. The brass buttons also have the inscription of the United States coat of arms. Cloth cover visor has hand embroidered gilt wire insignia for the rank of Colonel. Nice complete 50mm wide leather sweatband with the typical "bow" ribbon to its reverse seam. Original sizing sticker "7 3/8" is still also present. Original celluloid sweat shield is still in place. Maker marked to "N.S. MEYER INC NEW YORK". Cap is about a size 60. Nice example.
