C035658 CANADIAN WWI, SERVICE TUNIC.
BACKGROUND:
Canadian troops heading overseas in 1914, where initially issued the 7 button Canadian production jacket. Their tunics where quickly worn out during service duty in England and France, and the troops where re-issued with British produced (5 button) service dress jackets. In 1917 cloth formation patches where sewn to the upper sleeves of the Canadian tunics.PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Canadian M1907 (British production) unlined service tunic is made from khaki serge and has a five button front closure with a lay down collar with dual hooks and eyes at the throat. There are two pleated patch breast pockets and two horizontal slash hip pockets all with buttoned, straight-edged flaps. There are brass belt support hooks positioned to each hip at the waistline and dual vertical tail skirt vents are to the reverse. The integral shoulder straps are buttoned near the neck (buttons missing). Three of the four original pocket buttons remain while four of the five front closer buttons are present. Buttons are all of the Canadian general service type. Sewn to each shoulder are the original formation patches for the 4th Canadian Division 102nd Battalion. On the left sleeve, just below the Div patches is a communication specialty badge for the 1st Infantry Works Company. All insignia retains its original hand stitching. Tunic also come with it original 3 years service stripes, which have been removed from the right sleeve, stitch out line is still visible (Found them stashed in the pocket). The tunic is in very good condition with the expected light nap wear but all its original stitching and no apparent repairs. Very nice untouched original jacket.
