C031762 "N.F.S." LAPEL BADGE.
BACKGROUND
: Created in 1941 through the amalgamation of the Auxiliary Fire Service and local fire brigades, the National Fire Service was made up of full-time and part-time male and female members. At it’s peak, the NFS had 370,000 personnel and divided into fourty Fire Forces. In between call, when on duty, the firemen and women performed manufacturing work.PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: A silver seven pointed star with the Kings Crown at the top features "N.F.S." to the center. Red enamel fills in detail on the crown and central engraving. It measures approximately 1cm x 1cm and features a curved "horned" stud to the reverse that slips into a button hole. It show darkening and heavy spotting to the reverse, but is a very nice example.
